The Special Olympics Unified 3 x 3 Basketball World Cup Attract Ceremony was held today in San Juan, Puerto Rico officially noting the start of the World Mug and setting the phase of what groups, spectators, families, and basketball fans around the world can expect for gameplay come 5– 7 December.

What is the Draw?

The draw is the process of sorting the teams completing in the Mug right into teams to see who they will certainly play in the preliminary of the event.

Contending groups for both men and women are initial split into 4 pots based on their home area and quota allotment.

From there the teams are attracted and placed into their teams. The groups define “group play” which describes the games that establish that progress to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.

The teams are sorted as A, B, C, D, and E for guys, and A, B, C, and D for ladies. On the males’s side of the competitors, 20 teams are attracted and arranged right into 5 groups of 4 groups. For the women, 18 teams are arranged into four teams– two teams of 5 and 2 groups of four.

The Draw Ceremony
Lead by Special Olympics International, Special Olympics Puerto Rico , and the Regional Organizing Committee for the Mug & & MC’ ed by Federico Lopez, son of Fico Lopez the former Puerto Rico basketball player, the draw collected a number of significant figures from the global basketball area and Puerto Rico. Attendance consisted of:

  • Hector Vazquez Muniz, Puerto Rico’s Sports and Leisure Secretary
  • Hector Magdiel Rivera, Supervisor of Sports and Entertainment for the Community of San Juan and in depiction of the Miguel Romero, Mayor of San Juan
  • Claudia Echeverry, Unique Olympics Regional Head Of State and Managing Director

  • Katie Villarini, Puerto Rico National Basketball Team and National 3 x 3 Employee

Basketball players from Special Olympics Puerto Rico remained in participation too.

What’s Next?

Unique Olympics groups will certainly make use of the following 92 days to educate with their team and prepare to find to San Juan to complete for the title of Special Olympics Unified 3 x 3 Basketball World Cup Champ.
